Campervan Window Blinds: Honeycomb, Roller or Magnetic Covers – Which Should You Choose?

Good campervan window blinds do three jobs: they keep the light out so you sleep, keep the heat in on cold nights, and let fresh air in without the flies. There are three main ways to do it – honeycomb insulated blinds, retractable roller blinds and magnetic window covers – and the right one depends on your windows, how you use your van and how often you want to take them down. This guide explains the differences in plain terms so you can choose with confidence.

1. Honeycomb insulated blinds (WINdoûr)

A honeycomb blind is made of pleated cells that trap a layer of air, and the WINdoûr fabric is foil-lined for extra insulation. That makes it the best choice if you use your van in autumn and winter, and it helps on hot days too. It sits in a slim aluminium frame with a track at the top and bottom, and closes with a magnetic catch.

2. Retractable roller blinds (ROLdoûr Slimline and Bespoke)

ROLdoûr blinds use the same idea as our ROLdoûr retractable shower door: the fabric rolls into a cartridge at the side and glides along low-friction tracks. The blackout fabric is flat with a resin backing – soft to the touch, blackout and draught-proof when closed – and the net option is a fine black mesh.

• Single – one blackout blind or one net.
• Duo – a cartridge on each side, so you can have blackout fabric and a net in the same opening.
• Vertical or horizontal – choose the direction that suits the shape of your window. Horizontal suits wide, short windows.
• Slimline or Bespoke – Slimline for smaller windows where space is tight; Bespoke for larger openings, partitions and door screens.

3. Magnetic window covers (Mercedes Sprinter)

If you drive a Mercedes Sprinter (2019 onwards), magnetic covers are the quickest option: they are shaped to the van's windows, add insulation and full privacy, and come off in seconds when you want the view back. There's nothing to fit, which makes them popular with people who use their van for work in the week and adventures at the weekend. Sets include rear door window covers.

How to choose: five simple questions

1. When do you travel? All year round, especially in winter – go for insulated honeycomb (WINdoûr) or insulated magnetic covers.
2. Do you need a fly net? If you want to sleep with the windows open, choose a DUO (WINdoûr DUO or ROLdoûr Duo) so you get the net and the blackout in one.
3. Do you want them fitted for good? Framed blinds (WINdoûr and ROLdoûr) stay in place and are always ready. Magnetic covers come off completely.
4. What shape are your windows? For wide, short windows look at horizontal ROLdoûr blinds; for tall windows, vertical.
5. What van do you have? Sprinter 2019+ owners can choose ready-shaped magnetic covers. For every other van, made-to-measure framed blinds are the way to get a perfect fit.
