ROLdoûr Care, Protection & Cleaning Guide

Your ROLdoûr screen is 100% polyester and comes in two fabrics. A few simple habits keep it looking great for years – here’s what to do, in the order you’ll need it.

  • Standard fabric – soft textured front, water-resistant resin coating on the back (shower side). Needs a fabric protector spray.
  • DualShield fabric – waterproof on both sides and wipe clean. No protector spray needed. Recommended for full-time van life or a van used every week.

1. Before you order – fit it 5mm above the tray

Mount the frame so the bottom sits about 5mm above your shower tray. That way the door never stands in water. Our measuring guide shows how.

2. When it arrives – protect Standard fabric before first use

Standard fabric: before you use the door, spray the textured side with a fabric protector. We recommend Scotchgard (the red can) fabric & upholstery protector. It stops splashes, shampoo, conditioner and everyday marks soaking in, so they wipe straight off and the texture stays clean. Re-apply every season, and more often if you live in your van. Always let the screen dry fully before and after spraying.

Scotchgard fabric protector

DualShield fabric: nothing to do – it’s ready to use.

Optional for both: if your shower head points straight at the door, a waterproof repellent spray on the shower side helps water run off.

3. After every shower

  • Standard: leave the door closed (pulled across) until the fabric is completely dry before letting it roll away. Rolling it up damp traps moisture.
  • DualShield: give it a quick wipe if needed – it can roll away straight after.

4. Regular deep clean – behind the cartridge and in the track

Do this monthly if you live in your van, and always before storing the van or leaving it parked for a while (both fabrics):

  1. Unclip the cartridge – it comes out easily. Watch the video.
  2. Clean behind where the cartridge sits – this is where moisture and dirt can build up.
  3. Clean inside the track so the door runs smoothly.
  4. Wipe the screen (see below), let everything dry, then clip the cartridge back in.

5. How to clean the screen

Textured side (Standard):

  1. Remove dust with a dry cloth.
  2. Dab marks with a damp (not wet) cloth or baby wipe. Rinse the cloth often so you don’t spread dirt.
  3. Support the screen from behind with a clean flat board, or take the cartridge out and clean it on a flat surface. Don’t press hard – you could stretch the fabric or damage the coating.
  4. Wipe in one direction, top to bottom, with the screen fully pulled out.
  5. Let it air dry fully pulled out, then re-apply your fabric protector.

Waterproof side (both fabrics, and both sides of DualShield): clean with a soft cloth or sponge and a mild soapy solution, rinse with clean water and let it air dry.

Never use bleach, harsh or abrasive chemicals, or hot water – warm water and mild soap only.

6. Parked up or in storage

Give the door a good clean first (step 4). Then leave it closed (pulled across) so air can reach the fabric, rather than rolled up in the cartridge. Keep the van ventilated if you can.

7. Spotted a mark or mould?

Deal with it straight away. On DualShield a quick wipe removes it. On Standard fabric, use a damp cloth and mild soap as above, let it dry, then re-protect. Don’t leave marks or mould on the screen – regular cleaning and drying prevents it in the first place.

8. Freshen up or upgrade

Want a fresh screen, a new colour, or to upgrade to DualShield because you’re spending longer in your van? Replacement fabric cartridges clip straight into your existing frame.

Real-world proof

See a ROLdoûr after 4 years of regular long trips. Fitted correctly and cleaned regularly, it has no mould at all. The only mark came from a kids’ shampoo or conditioner spill – exactly what a fabric protector spray would have stopped. Watch the video here.
