As a small, family-owned business from Pembrokeshire, we can't quite describe how excited we are to share this: our best-selling product, the ROLdoûr retractable shower door, features on Channel 4's George Clarke's Amazing Spaces: First Home, episode 2. It even made it into Channel 4's advert for the series.
The programme follows people beating the housing crisis by turning unconventional spaces into their first homes: buses, boats, toilet blocks and trailers. It celebrates exactly what we care about most – innovative homes and clever design that make every centimetre count.
Meet Elena, John and Brian the big ol' bus
Elena and John converted Brian, the big ol' bus, so they could live in him and save up to buy their first home in the town where they grew up. Even once they have bricks and mortar, Brian will stay with them for travelling.
They had a budget of £20,000. Around £15,000 went on the chassis, engine and mechanical work, leaving £5,000 to fit out the inside. With money that tight, every choice had to work hard, and the bathroom was no exception.
It started with an email
Elena and John emailed us asking for help fitting a space-saving shower door in their bus. Space-saving campervan shower doors are what we specialise in, so we talked them through every option across our range:
- ROLdoûr – retractable fabric that rolls away into a cartridge.
- TAMdoûr – a tambour door that slides across in a track.
- FOLdoûr – a bi-fold that splits in the middle and folds inwards.
- FLEXdoûr – folds to one side, or as a double door that opens in the middle and folds to each side.
- ZIPdoûr – an insulated door with a zip down each side that folds up and clips out of the way.
Why they chose ROLdoûr
They went for our popular ROLdoûr retractable shower door. The fabric rolls away into a cartridge, so there's no door swinging in or out to eat into the space. It closes magnetically for full privacy, and it let them match the colour scheme they had in mind.
Their shower cubicle didn't suit our pre-made sizes, which are available for quick delivery, so we custom-made their ROLdoûr to the exact measurement. They chose from:
- Nine frame colours.
- Standard fabric in dark grey, light grey or cream, with a textured, plush feel.
- DualShield fabric in dark grey, light grey or cream, fully waterproof on both sides.
- ROLdoûr Noir (black frame, black fabric) or ROLdoûr Blanc (white frame, white fabric), our exclusive finishes.
Support from start to finish
We helped them plan how it would fit, then made it to their exact measurements. When it arrived, we talked them through putting it together and installing it. All the product information was also on our website, so the whole process stayed as simple as possible.
We've kept in touch ever since. We followed how the build was going and shared their excitement when they heard Brian would be on the show.
Seeing it on screen
Episode 2 follows the build and tells the story behind it, alongside other couples with amazing projects. During George Clarke's walk-through of the bus, you can see the ROLdoûr opening and closing into the shower and toilet room.
