WINdoûr Window Blinds Measuring Guide (Single + DUO)

Use this guide to measure your WINdoûr window blind accurately so we can make it to fit the first time. WINdoûr is available in Single and DUO options, and can be fitted in two ways:

Recessed (between the window opening)

Overlap (on the face of the wall/frame, covering the opening)

Before you start

Use a steel tape measure (not a fabric tape).

Measure in millimetres (mm).

Measure twice.

If your window is not perfectly square, we build to the measurements you provide — so follow the “smallest vs largest” rules below.

Choose your fitting option

Option 1: Recessed fitting (between the window opening)

This option fits inside the window opening for a neat, flush look.

You will measure:

Recess width (mm)

Recess height (mm)

Recess depth (mm)

Step 1 — Measure the recess width

Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the opening.

Use the smallest measurement (this prevents the frame from being too tight to fit).

Step 2 — Measure the recess height

Measure the height left, centre and right.

Measure from the top of the recess down to the window sill (or the bottom surface the blind will sit on).

Use the smallest measurement.

Step 3 — Check for obstructions

Check for anything that could clash with the frame or fabric, such as:

Window handles

Latches

Trims

Fixtures that protrude into the opening

If there’s a handle in the way, you may need the Overlap option instead.

Please note: We can also price up for frame extenders in case the handle is protruding out too far

Step 4 — Measure recess depth (important)

Measure the depth available to confirm the system will fit.

WINdoûr frame depth: 34mm

WINdoûr bottom track height (step): 28mm

Final check (recessed)

Confirm the surfaces are solid and suitable for fixing.

Note: the bottom track creates a 28mm step — please consider accessibility and trip hazards.

Option 2: Overlap fitting (covers the opening)

This option mounts onto a flat face around the opening and overlaps the recess.

You will provide:

Overall frame width (mm)

Overall frame height (mm)

Important note about window sills (cills)

If you choose Overlap, the bottom of the blind/frame needs to rest on the sill/cill if you have one.

If your sill/cill sticks out or is higher than the wall face, it may block the frame from sitting flat.

You must measure and plan so the bottom of the frame can land on the sill/cill cleanly (or choose a different overlap amount / fitting option).

If you’re unsure, send us a photo of the window area and sill/cill.

Step 1 — Confirm you have a flat fixing surface

You need a flat-to-flat surface to fix the frame to around the opening.

Tip: Frame corner caps can be removed to allow fixing through the frame.

Step 2 — Measure the recess opening (base measurement)

Measure the opening width top, middle, bottom.

Measure the opening height left, centre, right.

For overlap fitting, use the largest measurements (this ensures full coverage).

Step 3 — Add the overlap (frame allowance)

WINdoûr frame overlaps by 28mm per side.

Left frame: 28mm (34mm deep)

Right frame: 28mm (34mm deep)

Total added width: 56mm

Width calculation:

Overall frame width = opening width + 56mm

Example:

Opening width = 1000mm

Overall frame width = 1000 + 28 + 28 = 1056mm

Step 4 — Measure height and add top/bottom allowances

Measure opening height (largest measurement), then add:

+28mm for the top frame/track overlap

Add +28mm at the bottom only if you need the frame to overlap below the opening (for example, if there is no sill to land on).

Height options:

Top overlap only: add 28mm

Top + bottom overlap: add 56mm

Step 5 — Check for obstructions

Make sure nothing will interfere with the frame or fabric path, including:

Handles protruding outward

Trims or lips that stop the frame sitting flat

The sill/cill (see note above)

Final check (overlap)

Note: the frame depth is 34mm and will protrude from the wall so ensure that nothing will be in the way of this frame or the handles when opening / closing the blind

Single vs DUO: what measurements do I provide?

For both Single and DUO, you measure the same way using the fitting option you choose.

Single: one blind panel.

DUO: two blind panels within the same overall frame size.

Order sizes are always the overall frame size (width x height) based on recessed or overlap rules above.
