VANdoûr Universal Campervan Mosquito Net Support Guide Before Purchase
Will VANdoûr fit your van?
VANdoûr is a mosquito net and privacy screen for your van's sliding side door or rear doors. One size fits lots of different vans, and here's why.
How it fits
Each VANdoûr has a fixed walk-through opening (the net you walk through) with spare fabric all round it. You tuck the spare fabric into your door's rubber seal at the top and both sides. No screws, no glue.
So your van's door opening needs to be:
- Bigger than our walk-through, so the net covers the whole doorway.
- No bigger than the whole screen, so the spare fabric still reaches your seal.
A bigger door just means less spare fabric left over. A smaller door means more. Either way it fits, as long as you're inside the size range below.
Step 1: Measure your door opening
- Width: measure seal to seal at the top, middle and bottom.
- Height: measure from the top seal down to the step (or where you want the screen to finish).
Step 2: Pick your size
| Small (SWB) | Medium / Large (MWB / LWB) | |
|---|---|---|
| Door opening height | 1350 – 1600mm | 1750 – 2050mm |
| Door opening width | 1000 – 1700mm | 1200 – 1700mm |
| Walk-through opening | approx. 1350 × 980mm | approx. 1750 × 1200mm |
| Typical vans | VW Transporter T5 / T6, Ford Transit Custom, Renault Trafic and similar | Mercedes Sprinter, VW Crafter, Ford Transit and similar |
Vans vary between years and conversions, so always measure, even if your van is listed.
The Medium / Large can work. It sits a little lower, so the bottom rests on your sill, and you trim the spare fabric at the two bottom corners up to the seal so it doesn't bunch up. It may not look quite as neat or close as snugly. Please send us your measurements and a photo before ordering and we'll advise.
Step 3: Check these before you buy
- Can you reach the rubber seal? If furniture, cupboards or wall panels have been built over the seal, the fabric can't tuck in. This is the most common reason a screen doesn't fit.
- Does your sliding door have a support arm at the top? See below.
- Rear doors: make sure nothing (door straps, bike-rack fittings) sits in the line of the seal.
Sliding door with a support arm (e.g. Renault Trafic)
On some vans the sliding door has an arm at the top that runs inside the van along a track. Fabric tucked into the top seal would block it. You can still fit VANdoûr:
- Tuck the sides into the rubber seal as normal.
- At the top, bring the spare fabric inside the van and fix it behind the track with self-adhesive (double-sided sticky) Velcro tape. Velcro is not supplied.
- The arm now slides freely, and there are no gaps for bugs.
It takes a little more effort and isn't quite as neat, but it works, and very few screens on the market fit these doors at all. Here's how one customer did it:
Using it
- Walk straight through. The two halves of the net close behind you with magnets. Now and then you may need to turn round and check they've lined up with no gap. There's no zip down the middle to snag, break or tear the net, so it lasts much longer.
- Fully open: unzip the sides, roll the net up and clip it at the top.
- Privacy layer: drop it down to get changed on a hot day without shutting the doors. It's waterproof, so it also keeps you dry if there's a sudden shower with the doors open. The silver backing reflects heat in the day. Roll it up and clip it at the top when not in use.
- Fine mesh: cross-woven, with holes under 1mm, keeps out mosquitoes, flies and even Scottish midges while letting the air through.
- It can stay in place with the doors closed, and it comes out with no marks on your van.
