Step-by-Step Guide: Cutting down the pre-made ROLdoûr width
Step-by-Step Guide: Cutting down the pre-made ROLdoûr width
This guide will help you accurately reduce the width of your new ROLdoûr for a perfect fit. (Please bear in mind that you cannot reduce the height of this door)
Please read all steps before starting. If in doubt, contact customer support for further advice.
1. Tools & Materials Needed
-
Blade saw
-
Measuring tape / ruler
-
Pencil/marker
-
Screwdriver
-
Sandpaper

2. Understanding Your Pre-Made ROLdoûr
-
Standard height (either 1800mm, 1750mm or 1700mm high) x 1000mm wide (width can be reduced but not the height)
-
Handle section: Aluminium full length handle with integrated magnet
-
100% Polyester fabric door screen

3. Assembling the door (pre-cut)
The door will not be assembled when it arrives, you will need to assemble it prior to reducing the width to ensure that the door operates correctly and to enable you to put the door back together correctly once you have cut it down on the width.
Firstly, start with removing the door from the outer box and unpackaging all of the individual parts.
Lay them out across a clean, smooth surface (preferably on a sheet or thin blanket to protect from scratching the frame) ensuring that all of the door will be able to be laid flat once assembled.

Start by determining the cartridge side of the door and the door stop sides and lay them parallel to each other.
You will then see the top and bottom tracks, one side of each track has a completely straight edge and the other side will have a 45 degree cut out. (it is important to slot the 45 degree track side into the cartridge end and the straight side to the door stop)

Insert the top and bottom tracks and ensure that the cartridge has been fully inserted into the frame and that the fabric hem is running between the top and bottom tracks.
Slide the handle section across to fully close and open the door a few times to ensure that it is all operating smoothly, this will determine whether the door has been assembled correctly and will also ensure that the door is operating correctly before you start cutting the tracks to the desired width.
Please note - if the door is not operating correctly, please get in touch with us immediately to prevent damage to the fabric and its hem
Please bear in mind that as the door has not yet been installed, the fabric door screen may pucker slightly in one corner or not close fully on one end against the door stop as the frame will not be completely straight and parallel but this will not happen once installed.
4. Cutting down the width
Start by removing the top and bottom tracks (ensure you remember which side you took the track off) from the doorstop and cartridge ends.
You will see small blocks in the middle of each track with a string attached. These are the string tensioning blocks. You will see a screw in the middle of each, using a screwdriver, loosen the screw and slide each of the blocks out and set them aside. (please leave the strings attached to each for now)

Take the loose top and bottom tracks and put them aside ready to be cut.
Top tip : Mark which track is which side for correct reassembly.
Measure your opening with a tape measure and work out how much needs to be cut off each track to obtain your desired shower door width.
IMPORTANT - Make sure you cut the completely straight end of each track. If you take a look at both ends, one side will have a small 45 degree cut out which needs to be against the cartridge side of the door and this side is not the side that needs to be cut, you need to cut the other end. The tracks must be cut to the same length to ensure the door closes flush and level against the doorstop.

Use a pencil and draw a straight line down each track that needs to be cut.
Get a saw (needs to be strong enough to cut through aluminium) and cut off the surplus parts of the track not needed.
Use some sand paper to smooth any rough edges and remove any burrs from the cut ends.
Once you are happy that both lengths of track have been cut to the same size, you can take them back to the rest of the door frame.
Depending on how much of the frames you have cut, take the tensioning blocks with the strings attached and remove the string from each and put the blocks somewhere safe.
Cut the same amount off each string as you cut from the tracks and then tie the strings back onto the blocks.
Insert each tensioning block back into the track from the side, do not tighten for now as these will need to be loose enough to slide freely while putting the frame together. They can be adjusted after reassembly to ensure they are parallel to each other. (top and bottom)
5. Reassembly
Put each track back into the frame, ensuring that they are the correct way around. If you turn the tracks onto the narrower bit (so you are looking inside of the track) you will see a wider ledge and a narrower ledge inside the track, make sure that the wider ledge is facing the flush front side of the door (flat part of the cartridge) as this will ensure that the fabric hem runs in the track the correct way.

Please also ensure that the door stop part of the door is the correct way around. If you look inside of the door stop, you will see a small channel running the full length of the door and that channel also needs to be facing the flush front side of the door. This will ensure that the magnet is in the correct place for the door to close and seal properly against when the door is shut.

Once the door has been assembled back together, make sure that the plastic hem part of the fabric is between the inside channels of the top and bottom tracks to ensure that there is no snagging as this can damage the door screen over time.
Slide blocks across with a screwdriver ensure blocks are parallel to each other (top and bottom) with a little tension on the string, otherwise, the door screen may not slide evenly and may pucker at one end when you close the door screen.
6. Final Checks
-
Check that the door slides smoothly back and forth (no snagging)
-
Check the width of the door against your opening prior to fitting to ensure that it is correct
-
Make sure the 45 degree cut out parts of the top and bottom tracks are slotted into the rounded edge side of the cartridge
-
Ensure that the door stop has been assembled the correct way
7. Safety Tips
-
Always wear safety gloves and eye protection when cutting.
-
Double-check all measurements before cutting.
