SAFEdour Support Guide: Measuring Up & Choosing the Best Shower Enclosure
SAFEdour Support Guide: Measuring Up & Choosing the Best Shower Enclosure
1. Why Accurate Measuring Matters
Getting the right fit is crucial for a safe, watertight, and easy-to-use shower enclosure. SAFEdour doors and panels are designed for simple DIY installation, but a few minutes spent measuring carefully will ensure a perfect result, every time.
2. What You’ll Need
- Tape measure (preferably metal for accuracy)
- Notepad or phone to record your measurements
- Spirit level (optional but recommended for checking wall/plinth level)
3. How to Measure Your Shower Space
A. For Corner or Alcove Showers
- Width 1: Measure from the back wall to the front edge on the left side (or the side you want as “Side 1”).
- Width 2: Measure from the back wall to the front edge on the right side (“Side 2”).
- Height: Measure from the top of your shower tray/base (or floor, if wet room) up to the maximum height you want the enclosure to reach (SAFEdour standard is 1850mm).
Tip:
Always measure at two or three points along each edge (top, middle, bottom) and use the smallest measurement for each side. This accounts for any out-of-square walls.
B. For Wall-to-Wall (Niche) Showers
- Measure the width between the two facing walls at the point where you want your door installed.
- Measure the height from the tray to the top (SAFEdour doors are 1850mm tall).
4. Deciding on Panels & Doors
A. Corner Install (2 Walls)
-
You’ll need: 1 SAFEdour door + 1 SAFEdour fixed panel
(Panel closes off the open side, door provides entry.)
B. Freestanding/Open-End Install (1 Wall)
-
You’ll need: 1 SAFEdour door + 2 SAFEdour fixed panels
(Panels on both sides, door in between.)
C. Niche/Alcove (3 Walls)
-
You’ll need: 1 SAFEdour door (no panels needed)
(Door fits between two solid walls.)
D. Custom or L-Shaped
-
Mix and match doors and panels to suit your layout.

5. Choosing the Best Size & Configuration
-
Match your measured widths to our size options.
If your measurement falls between two sizes, choose the next size up for easier fitting and adjustment. -
For rectangular corner enclosures:
Decide which side you want as the longer side (left or right when facing the shower).
We offer both options for each size—just select your preference at checkout! -
For square enclosures:
Both sides are equal, so no left/right choice is needed.
6. Example Size Selector (for Rectangular Corners)
- 650–700mm (Left) x 850–900mm (Right) x 1850mm – Longer Side on Right
- 850–900mm (Left) x 650–700mm (Right) x 1850mm – Longer Side on Left
- 700–750mm x 700–750mm x 1850mm (Square)
7. Extra Tips for the Perfect Fit
- Check for obstacles: Make sure there’s no pipework, window sill, or raised plinth that could block the frame or door movement.
- Allow for adjustment: SAFEdour doors and panels are designed with some flexibility for fine-tuning on site.
- Level is best: Use a spirit level to check that your tray or floor is even—if not, note the difference and let us know.
